Moonsigns

Monthly Forecast: January 2009

January came quickly, although for us, here in north Worcester County Massachusetts, December was a grind, thanks to being totally abused by our understaffed, underpowered power utility. We had no heat/light/electricity for 11 days and only got our email back just after Christmas. So I'm feeling a little bit like I've got a lot to catch up on. Thank goodness we had a generator. And this was the transition between second and third trimester for me, so going from awkward to totally bulky has been another factor. Oh, and did I tell you I was writing a book with a January deadline?

But enough about me – here's the deal with January. Mercury retrogrades starting January 10 through 31. Make ALL your communication decisions before then. This month also brings Mars in alignment with the sun, so the earth sign people will be extra dynamic. January 20-23 brings a Venus/Uranus conjunction so if you're doing a blind date or instant-dating, or meet-and-greet opportunities it will be a case of strange bedfellows all around, but particularly for Gems, Sadges and Virgos. (Virgos, please enjoy this, will ya?)

And since the year is new, I still have piles of calendars and almanacs (herbal and moon) from Llewellyn to move along to all you wonderful folks. Am happy to autograph these if you would like for gift-giving. Calendars are $16; almanacs are $9 each, and you can send check to POBox 77, Westminster, MA 01473, or visit moonsigns.net, though Chuck still hasn't uploaded the picture of the 2009 calendar. Yet ONE MORE DETAIL that will drive me nuts in a Virgo year.

Also, I'll be teaching at the Cambridge Center, February 5 from 6 to 8 p.m., a class called “Shoot for the Moon – using lunar phases in love and business.” If you need tools to get what you want, be smart about when you take action, this is the class for you. Call 617-547-6789 for more.
Yours in the cause of a more orderly universe, Symboline Dai

ARIES (March 21 or 22 to April 19 or 20).
Aries is a cardinal fire sign ruled by Mars. Represented by the Ram, Aries love to start (but usually not finish), make great leaders (as long as there are followers), and can be incredibly generous. Famously confident Aries include Marlon Brando, Harry Houdini, and Nikita Kruschev.
Difficult days come ... all month, because of the Mars thing. But especially on January 16, 17
Smoother sailling: 3, 4, 30, 31
The big picture in a nutshell . . .

Tough stuff: those of you born in March could be vexed and accident-prone through January 10. Those born April 1-8 could be ditto January 8-17; those born  April 9-15 could feel this January 14-28; those born April 15 and after could be easily riled January 17-Feb. 4. But with Jupiter entering Aquarius, all kinds of communication, plus interesting new relations will emerge this year. You also will have some excellent opportunities for unusual new investment opportunities – just in time given the market's foundering. Whatever your struggle has been last year, this year offers much more useful astrology

TAURUS (April 20 or 21 to May 20 or 21).
Taurus is a fixed earth sign, practical and, for the most part, steady.  Ruled by Venus, Taureans like comfort and aesthetic beauty. Famous Taureans include: Fred Astaire, Duke Ellington and Salvador Dali. Despite this stellar line-up, they're team players, and lead only if they absolutely have to.  Represented by the bull, Taureans are slow to anger, but once riled make formidable foes.
Difficult days come on 18-20
Smoother sailing comes on 5-7
The big picture in a nutshell . . .
If last year had lots of pluses (aside from your 401K plan heading to southerly latitudes), take stock from what you've learned and the challenges you've overcome. You get a second year to grow and expand the lessons you learned in 2008, and you also should think about two big improvements: home changes and health enhancements. January eases you into the year, but please be aware that Jupiter's year-long transit through Aquarius has some “gumming of the works” potential for Taurus. This is a year when you could be more gullible than usual and more willing to believe anyone's sob story. But not this month, which is excellent for planning long term construction and other plans.

GEMINI (May 21 or 22 to June 21 or 22).
Gemini is a mutable air sign ruled by Mercury. Represented by the Twins (or Janus, the two-faced figure), appealing Geminis with at least two well-defined personalities are Elizabeth Hurley (forgiving girlfriend/dedicated movie producer), John F. Kennedy (humanitarian/party animal), and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinbugh (gruff regal paterfamilias/sensitive environmentalist). Gemini charms everyone with nonstop talk and fanciful ideas.
Difficult days come on 20-22
Smoother sailing comes on 8, 9
The big picture in a nutshell . . .
This is an excellent year to be a Gemini, what with Jupiter in Aquarius, expanding your educational and social horizons all year. 2009 could find folks a little flakier than normal, which could be protective cover for you. Your biggest month this year is June and July – save all big decisions for then... (the investment in grad school, the second marriage, etc). See introduction for Mercury retrograde info, but use this month as a time to suck up to water signs who can help or at least cover for you. They're happy to do it, honest....

CANCER (June 22 or 23 to July 22 or 23).
Cancer is a cardinal water sign ruled by the moon. Represented by the crab, Cancers can be home-loving, deeply domestic, fiercely loyal and self-protective and prone to stomach upsets when life doesn't go their way. Cancers feel everything very deeply, but won't necessarily tell you about this. Well, they will, but on their time. They prefer to move sideways -- frequently. Henry David Thoreau was a Cancer, and a quirky version of the breed -- he turned Walden into a home, but what a home...Tom Cruise, Tom Hanks and Harrison Ford are also Cancers. So was the Princess of Wales and the current Duchess of Cornwall. “Well-defended” is what we find in many crabbies.

Difficult days come on 23-25
Smoother sailing comes on 10, 11
The big picture in a nutshell . . .
It's not that 2009 isn't ABOUT you, it's just that your issues and complaints and growing pains are subordinate to the lessons the solar system will be hurling at Leo, Scorpio and Taurus. Those of you who are 17, 21, 24, 28, 29, mid-30s, early 40s, and mid-50s will find that you are needing to learn to be more scrupulous. January has Mars moving through Capricorn, which will prompt you to make HUGE efforts...for minimal rewards. Not your best time for conflict and the wise crab will take the month, find a quiet place and molt. New carapace should be hardened in early February. Those born in June should be cautious January 1-6; those born July 1-7 ditto January 5-14; those born July 8-15, ditto January 12-23; those born July 15 and after from mid-month through February. Mars this month is all about you making huge efforts for modest rewards and – worse – not getting credit for your brilliance.
LEO (July 23/24-August 23).
Leo is a fixed fire sign ruled by the sun. Represented by the lion, Leos are happy being the center of attention and don't feel fully alive without an admiring audience to applaud their activities. The ready smile (but not laugh) is theirs -- this is the sign of kings, or those who would be. Famous Leos who enjoy their command include Bill Clinton, Princess Margaret, and Napoleon.
Difficult days come on 26-27
Smoother sailing comes on 12-13
The big picture in a nutshell . . . 2009 for Leo will be memorable in that you have to find the VERY BEST of yourself all year. Jupiter moves into Aquarius this month, opposing your sun. Think back 6 years and the triumphs you had, the helpful folks who came along and the monetary improvements in your life. This year brings another wrinkle to those events – there will be some tough choices, which could put your whiskers in a frazzle. This month, Mars in Capricorn makes the goats you know even more determined and since your sign has a “special affinity” with that one, you may want to do “grain of salt” with their events.

VIRGO (August 24-September 22/23).
Virgo is a mutable earth sign ruled by Mercury. Represented by the Virgin, many Virgos are classic compulsive perfectionists whose eye for detail may delight an actuary, but annoy the rest of us. Famous Virgos include D.H. Lawrence, Cardinal Richelieu and Goethe.
Difficult days come on 1, 2, 28, 29
Smoother sailing comes on 14, 15
The big picture in a nutshell . . . 2009 is year two of Saturn in your sun sign. Health issues, work complaints, more responsibility, financial constraint should have been a theme since September, 2007. The good news is that those of you born September 7 and after will be most affected – the other Virgos have already had a big dose of reality. This month actually brings excellent astrology for the workplace, and not-so-pleasant planetary angles for personal relationships. You will have NO patience with people who were a bit of a strain, and will be intolerant even of those nearest and dearest. This could prompt guilt that is assuaged by eating (and eating, and eating). Your natural impulse to complain will also be cranked high, particularly for Sept. 9-12 folks (and you'll be strangely gullible at the same time).

LIBRA (September 23/24-October 23/24).
Libra is a cardinal air sign ruled by Venus and represented by the Scales. Famous Libras include John Lennon, Franz Liszt and Sarah Bernhardt. Libras love harmony, partnership, and are frequently indecisive. But oh, how charming they can be about it. At least that's what they tell us.
Difficult days come on 3, 4, 30, 31
Smoother sailing comes on 16, 17
The big picture in a nutshell . . . 2009 is basically preparing you for the HUGE life changes on the schedule for 2010 and 2011. If you've been taking on more responsibility in 2008, you'll be basically at cruising altitude this year, although those of you born 1960, 1987 and 1933 or so will have plenty of endurance you didn't know you had. Those born in September could be impatient with others through January 6; those born Oct. 1-7 could be impatient and accident-prone January 5-16; those born Oct. 8-15 could be uncharacteristically clumsy January 14-January 28; those born after Oct. 15 could be ditto January 20-Feb. 4.

SCORPIO (October 24-November 22).
Scorpio is a fixed water sign formerly ruled by Mars, now by Pluto, which astrologers still consider a planet, thank-you-very-much, represented by the Scorpion. Famous Scorpios include Prince Charles, Picasso, and Robert Kennedy. Scorps mystify more people than any other sign, mostly because the themes of sex, death and other people's money rule the 8th house, Scorpio's natural home. Charming but not overly sociable, your typical Scorps are charismatic, occasionally devious with an ethical compass all their own.
Difficult days come on
Smoother sailing comes on 5-7
The big picture in a nutshell . . . Scorpio has had a year of building and rebuilding in 2008. This year will bring an opportunity for revolutionary new developments in projects that are near and dear to you. Fortunately, January will ease you into the vibe for the year, although those born on or around Oct. 23-24 could get surprising news, or a reduction of responsibilities (this may not be desirable). With Venus in Pisces just ahead of Mars in Capricorn, relations with friends and loved ones should be smooth (taking into account Mercury retrograde, see introduction).

SAGITTARIUS (November 23-December 22 or 23).
Sagittarius  is a mutable fire sign ruled by Jupiter. Represented by the centaur (half-man, half-beast), Sadge loves justice, and is keenly interested in philosophizing. Finding them at home is difficult -- they're happiest on a long trip, or 'trip.' Well-travelled Sadges include: Frank Sinatra, William Buckley Jr., Winston Churchill and Joe DiMaggio.
Difficult days come on 5-7
Smoother sailing comes on 21, 22
The big picture in a nutshell . . . The planets have been in a difficult spot for you since Sept. 2007 – and you're supposed to be turning a corner. With Saturn in Virgo, concluding a two-plus year journey, developing projects and opportunities that emerged in the last seven years should have been a theme. This year, you should be used to that feeling of, “oh, I have to take the long way,” which is never fun. In January, Venus in Pisces is making you impatient with loved ones and cranking up your various appetites. You'll be in a mood to take some risks – and not necessary healthy ones. If you keep having days where more than one person is saying “lighten up,” there's a message there. Fortunately, you folks are at SUCH an advantage in the zodiac overall, that even Mercury retrograde won't slow you down. Those born on or around December 10-12 will be meeting interesting new people who have very particular specialized interests.

CAPRICORN (December 22 or 23 to January 20 or 21).
Capricorn  is a cardinal earth sign ruled by Saturn represented by the goat. Caps are dogged, responsible, occasionally blunt, reliable, long-lived and prone to gloom, although admirably steady. Famous Capricorns include Benjamin Franklin, Joan of Arc, and Richard Nixon. Capricorn is having a wonderful Jupiter transit this year, which could help your mood enormously.
Difficult days come on 10, 11
Smoother sailing comes on 23-25
The big picture in a nutshell . . . Capricorn, it was your year last year. You should have experienced the culmination of 12 years worth of work. You should also be somewhat exhausted and wondering, “shouldn't that have been better?” The answer is, wait and see. This year, you get to expand on the opportunities and unexpected partnerships that came along. Yes, I know capricorn is a solitary, “leave me be” kind of sign, but too much independence means you have to work harder to get not-quite-as-far. This month, Mars is in your sun sign, making this an extra-dynamic birthday month. You'll find yourself being VERY frank with others, and your leadership side comes out full-force. If you've been wanting a raise or an officializing of your authority, this month you're due for it. Those born on or around December will be very dynamic January 1-12; those born January 1-7 will take charge January 9-18; those born January 8-15 will be unstoppable January 13-22; and those born after that date have from January 21-February 5 to make big changes.
AQUARIUS (Jan. 21-Feb. 19)
Aquarius is a fixed air sign ruled by Uranus. Represented by the water carrier, Aquarians are dreamy, methodical, and humanitarian to an extreme. Ruled by the planet Uranus, Aquarians surprise us all with the unexpected move, but they're usually ahead of the curve. Need investment advice? Call an Aquarian, and find out where the money goes (usually not to them, but that's ok -- air signs can swing with that). Famous Aquarians include: Lewis Carroll, Norman Rockwell and Franklin Roosevelt.

Difficult days come on 12, 13
Smoother sailing comes on 26, 27
The big picture in a nutshell . . . Aquarius: it's your year. It's all good. Everything adds up. And if you're miserable right now, the answers will come. Flee, shed, shred, bail, jump. Your astrology for 2009 is encouraging you to take the big risks that you may have taken six years ago (and left you feelig slightly burned). You guys are in luck. I'm sticking with you. And if you're dealing with health issues, you've got to get a range of commentary. And if you're dealing with romantic issues that are flowering (unexpectedly), you can take that risk. February brings Mars in your sun sign; this month – prepare for the big changes and feeling of rebellion.

PISCES (February 20-March 21). Pisces is a mutable water sign ruled by Neptune. Represented by two fish swimming in opposite directions, some Pisces, like some Libras thrive in indecision, especially of the emotional-quandary kind. Well-adapted Pisces realize they need plenty of art/music/poetry in their life to stave off the blues. Frequent company helps too. Pisces rules the 12th house (secrets, institutions), and though they'll take the spotlight if you ask them, they're perfectly happy behind the scenes. And if they are in the spotlight, they'll be inimitable and memorable, and slightly strange (Karen Carpenter and Lou Reed are both Pisces).

Difficult days come on 14, 15
Smoother sailing comes on 1, 2, 28, 29
The big picture in a nutshell . . .Pisces is one of my favorite signs and you will be totally lovable this month as Venus has gotten way ahead of herself and is in your sun sign NOW. Therefore, others will be attracted and want your expertise, your easy laughter, your quirky commentaries and possible need to borrow some money and can you give them a ride. Those of you involved with Capricorn mates (Pisces loves Capricorn and Leo loves Capricorn but Leo and Pisces is SUCH A BAD IDEA!!!) will have to cut them some slack – they're in hyper-confident overdrive. Always fun for the bystander. But this month, make time for new friends, new pleasures, experiences that make you laugh. Those of you born on or around March 8-12 will be radiating the following forcefield: “Crazy people! I love ya! Come sit by me!”

About MoonSigns

This horoscope traces the passage of the moon, not the sun. Simply read from day to day to watch the moon’s influence as it moves through the signs of the zodiac.

When the moon is in your sun sign (e.g., you’re a Taurus and the moon is in Taurus), you are beginning a new 28-day emotional cycle. Expect increased insight and emotional responses during this two day period. The moon changes sign approximately every 2.5 days, so it’s influence is intense, but ultimately brief. Now, when the moon is in the sign opposite your sun sign, expect some ups and downs. Here are the oppositions: Aries, Libra. Taurus, Scorpio. Gemini, Sagittarius. Cancer, Capricorn. Leo, Aquarius and Virgo, Pisces.

As the moon between signs, it will sometimes become "void of course," and make no major angles to planets. Consider this a null time and try to avoid decision-making or implementing decisions if you can. It is an excellent period for creativity, unexpected encounters, and quirky outcomes.
